Parks Leads U.S. Team in Wheelchair Tennis

Brad Parks of San Clemente defeated Stephan Bitterauf of West Germany, 6-1, 6-2, in the World International Team Cup division of the U.S. Open Championship of wheelchair tennis at the Racquet Club of Irvine Friday.
The match helped the United States men’s team defeat West Germany, 3-0. The U.S. women’s team defeated Israel, 3-0. Both will advance to the quarterfinals today at 9 a.m.
Randy Snow of Birmingham, Ala., defeated Jurgen Nagel , 6-2, 6-1, in another men’s singles match and the doubles team of Rick Slaughter of Nashville, Ten., and Chip Parmelly of Diamond Bar defeated Nagel and Bitterauf, 6-0, 6-1.
In women’s singles, Terry Lewis of Modesto defeated Tiki Avishi of Israel 6-2, and forfeit. Mary Jones of Fountain Valley defeated Iris Lalo , 6-1, 6-1. In doubles, Nancy Olson from Stoney Point, NY., and Becky White-Chun of Fresno defeated Avishi and Lalo, 6-1, 6-4.
