An Escondido man died Friday when the car he was driving veered off Interstate 5 and slammed into a parked van that burst into flames, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
The accident that killed Mark Edward Jovin, 32, occurred about 2:30 a.m. on I-5 south of Basilone Road, CHP Officer Gary Kiger said. Witnesses said Jovin was traveling north, weaving in and out of traffic, when he hit the abandoned van parked on the east shoulder of the freeway. Jovin was dead at the scene, Deputy Coroner Chuck Kelly said.
