A 32-year-old woman walking across a downtown street was struck and killed by a driver who may have been under the influence of PCP, Los Angeles police said Friday.
The woman, whose identity was withheld pending notification of relatives, was in a crosswalk at 6th Street and Central Avenue about 5:30 p.m. Thursday when she was struck by the car driven by Mario Flores, 28, of Compton, Police Sgt. Larry Swanson said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Flores continued south on Central, striking a car at 7th Street and slightly injuring the other driver, according to Swanson.
Flores was arrested at the scene and booked on suspicion of murder.
Officer Arvin Turner said a preliminary investigation indicated Flores was under the influence of some drug, possibly PCP.
A blood sample was taken from Flores for analysis.
