Canyon 42, Burroughs (Ridgecrest) 15--Canyon quarterback Tim Beidle connected with Clint Beauer on touchdown passes of 18, nine and 15 yards in the first half as Canyon routed Burroughs at Canyon. Beauer, the Valley-area’s leading receiver, added another touchdown in the second half and finished with eight catches for 114 yards.
With Canyon (2-3-1, 1-0) leading, 21-7, defensive back Joe McKeon stopped Burroughs’ first two second-half drives with two of his three interceptions. Canyon running back Chris Peery added 140 yards in 22 carries. Beidle passed for 146 yards and four touchdowns, completing 10 of 20 passes.
Trailing, 21-0, Burroughs scored with three seconds left in the first half when Ivy Calvin returned a kickoff 96 yards.
