Chuck Fick, a former triple-A catcher, has been invited to try out for the Port St. Lucie (Fla.) Legends of the Senior Professional Baseball Assn. Fick, 33, will report Sunday to the team, which is coached by Graig Nettles.
Fick, an assistant baseball coach at Thousand Oaks High the past two years, last played professionally in 1983 for Tacoma, Wash., an Oakland Athletics triple-A team in the Pacific Coast League. He was drafted by the Montreal Expos in 1979 after helping Pepperdine to the College World Series that year.
Players in the SPBA, which begins play in November, must be 35 years old and have played in the major leagues. Catchers may be 32 years old, however, and three players per team can have had only triple-A experience.
The United States Tennis Assn. national men’s 50- and 55-and-over division hard court championships will be held Oct. 17-22 at the Westlake Tennis and Swim Club.
Gordon Davis of Encino is the top-seeded player in the 58-player, 50-division singles draw. David Skeels, a junior catcher at Thousand Oaks High, will play for the American Eagles baseball team on its Australian tour from Dec. 26-Jan. 7.
Players were selected nationwide for the team, which is managed by Jack Hodges, the U. S. Junior Olympic baseball coach.
The tour includes games against Australian teams, plus training sessions and clinics.
