LOS ALAMITOS — Quarterhorse jockey Bruce Pilkenton was injured when he was thrown from his mount in the eighth race Thursday night at Los Alamitos Race Course.
Pilkenton was riding Silly Doc, a 5-year-old gelding who was leading an 870-yard race when the horse stumbled and threw Pilkenton over its head.
Track spokesman Craig Peterson said he believed Pilkenton was kicked by another horse and reported that witnesses said Pilkenton suffered a cut to his head. Peterson said Pilkenton, the state’s second leading jockey in victories this year, was conscious when he was taken by ambulance to Los Alamitos General Hospital.
