Politically motivated mass executions took place in Iran during the second quarter of 1988, according to evidence cited in a U.N. report to be published this week. It gave no figure for the number of those executions but said many of the more than 900 officially announced during the first five months of this year, mainly for drug offenses, were also alleged to have been politically motivated.
