WASHINGTON — The Senate unanimously approved the nomination of the entertainer Pearl Bailey on Sunday to be a representative to the United Nations.
On a voice vote and with little comment, the lawmakers agreed to the appointment as Congress met in an unusual Sunday session to deal with last-minute business.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) described the 71-year-old singer as “a person who has contributed so much to our culture and to our nation.”
