From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Former U.S. Judge Walter L. Nixon, stripped of his judgeship earlier this month by the Senate, was barred from practicing law in Mississippi. The Mississippi Supreme Court, which indefinitely suspended Nixon’s law license in 1986, entered an order requested by the Mississippi State Bar Assn. to make disbarment permanent. The court’s ruling in Jackson came a day after Nixon was released from a half-way house in New Orleans. He had served 20 months of a five-year sentence for lying to a federal grand jury.
