POPABILITY: With the holiday movie season kicking into high gear, the search for the perfect popcorn becomes all the more important. . . . A Fullerton firm, Beatrice-Hunt Wesson Foods Inc., has spent $45,000 to see why popcorn kernels don’t always pop. . . . Hoping to “breed the corn for better popability,” Beatrice funded popcorn studies at the University of Illinois. . . . The Popcorn Institute of America says U.S. residents eat 52 quarts of popcorn per person a year--more than 100 million quarts a year in Orange County.
