A U.S. Navy corpsman was killed Friday after his motorcycle plowed into a stalled car on California 94, California Highway Patrol officers said.
James L. Giles, 28, of Julian, was pronounced dead at 5 p.m. at UC San Diego Medical Center, about an hour after the collision on State 94 west of Interstate 805, San Diego County coroner’s deputy Dan Matticks said Saturday. Giles, a corpsman stationed at the North Island Naval Air Station, died of internal injuries, Matticks said.
Giles was riding his motorcycle east at about 55 m.p.h. when he struck a 1984 Ford Bronco that had stalled ahead of him, CHP officers said. Hanna Abusalem, 34, of La Mesa, the driver of the Bronco, was trying to re-start the car when Giles slammed into it from behind, officers said.
