MELBOURNE, Australia — Michael Chang and Arantxa Sanchez are the two remaining names on the shopping list of the Australian Open tennis championship.
Chang, the French Open champion, has said he will take a break from tennis early in 1990 and plans to miss the first Grand Slam tournament of the decade; Sanchez also plans a vacation.
Tennis Australia President Geoff Pollard said Wednesday that he would make a new approach to Chang, ranked fifth in the world, in an attempt to change his mind before entries for the Jan. 15-28 championships close on Monday.
Sanchez, the French Open women’s champion, will contest the Hopman Cup mixed teams event in Perth from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1 but is then scheduled to return home.
