California IN BRIEF : PALM SPRINGS : 3.1 Quake Rattles Remote Desert Area

A small earthquake struck 24 miles southwest of Palm Springs. There were no reports of damage or injury in the magnitude 3.1 temblor, which was in a remote desert area, said Bob Finn, a spokesman for Caltech in Pasadena. The quake was not related to a series of small temblors that struck last week along the San Jacinto fault from San Bernardino to east of Palm Springs, Finn said.
