THE SIDELINES : Kronberger Wins Giant Slalom

HINTERSTODER, Austria — Petra Kronberger won her third World Cup race of the season today by capturing the women’s giant slalom.
The Austrian, second fastest after the first run, registered a total time of 2 minutes 21.44 seconds for the win.
Austrian Anita Wachter was second with an aggregate time of 2:21.95. Veronika Sarec of Yugoslavia, who had the second fastest overall time, was disqualified after losing a ski in the final stages.
Michela Gerg of West Germany, who heads the standings with 148 points, was third in 2:22.94. Diann Roffe of the United States was sixth in 2:23.68.
“It’s all happened so quickly, it’s difficult to believe,” said Kronberger, who suddenly finds herself among the contenders in the World Cup standings.
