The identity of the victim--a black male in his mid-20s--remained unknown Saturday. An autopsy was expected to be performed.
San Diego police placed the man in custody shortly before 3 p.m. Friday after a short chase on foot in Southeast San Diego, according to accounts provided by the sheriff’s and police departments. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia, authorities said.
Shortly after being arrested, police said, the man collapsed for unknown reasons and was rushed to Paradise Valley Hospital in National City. He was pronounced dead at 9:19 p.m., the coroner’s office said.
