World IN BRIEF : LEBANON : Attacks on Israeli Troops Halved in ’89

Guerrilla attacks against Israel’s presence in its self-declared security zone in southern Lebanon were cut in half last year, the commander of Israeli troops there said. “This is an achievement, even considering the price we paid,” said Brig. Gen. Zeev Zaharin. He spoke after a week in which an Israeli colonel was killed, troops were ambushed by Palestinians and land mines wounded three soldiers.
