HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Montclair Prep Slips Past Western Christian, 76-74

Jack Shemtov scored 20 points to lead five Montclair Prep players in double figures as the Mounties handed Western Christian a 76-74 loss in an Alpha League game Saturday at Western Christian.

Jason Gerber (14 points), Chris Sanger (12), Ed Cibrian (12) and Robert Thomas (11) also scored in double figures for Montclair Prep (16-3, 9-0).

Chris Bruce scored a game-high 21 points and had 14 assists to lead Western Christian (12-7, 5-3), which battled back from a 13-point deficit.

Scott Crawford had 17 points and five steals, Scott Bruce had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Josh Feldmeth and Terry Noice each had 11 points.

In another other boys’ game:

Brentwood 74, Faith Baptist 58--Rickey David scored 15 points in a losing cause for Faith Baptist (10-9, 4-2) in Delphic League game. Fernando Garcia led Brentwood (12-7, 4-2) with a game-high 24 points.

GIRLS

Highland Hall 52, Garden Grove Claremont 20--Kristen Johansen and Monica Palma shared game-high scoring honors with 14 points to pace the Hawks to a school-record ninth victory.

Laura Kenney contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds for Highland Hall (9-5).

Western Christian 79, Montclair Prep 12--Virginia Trimble scored 21 points and Western Christian held the Mounties scoreless in the first and fourth quarters in an Alpha League game at Montclair Prep. Leanna Green scored 15, and Pam Heilgeist and Lori Theodorff combined for 22 for Western Christian (10-8, 5-3).
