Western State Conference women’s basketball teams beware: Valley College is hitting its stride.
The Lady Monarchs, conference champions last season, dismantled a strong Moorpark team, 79-49, Saturday night to serve notice that they are ready to continue their reign.
“We played one of our better games so far this season,” Valley Coach Doug Michelson said. “We’re playing better week by week.”
Sandrine Rocher led Valley with 11 points. Karrie Parsons, with 10, was the only other double-figure scorer but 10 players scored more than six points.
“That’s the blueprint,” Michelson said. “We really stress balance and unselfish play.”
Valley (21-4, 7-1 in conference play) forced 23 turnovers in moving to a 35-19 halftime lead and held Moorpark’s multitalented Debra Rabin, the second-leading scorer in WSC play, to nine points.
Katie Krause led Moorpark (14-8, 5-2) with 14 points, and Cindy Wiley scored 13.
