Southern California College stopped Westmont’s 19-game winning streak with late free throws Saturday at SCC.
Westmont (20-2, 6-1 in the Golden State Athletic Conference) led most of the first half, but Terry Scruggs’ three-point shot made the score, 37-35, and SCC (16-7, 5-2) never trailed again in winning, 80-77.
“We knew they were good on defense,” SCC forward John Mounce said. “We just did what we do in practice and it worked.” The teams traded baskets for most of the second half, but in the last minute the Vangaurds made nine of 11 free throws for the victory.
