MEDI-SCARE: Fear of health-care costs (A1) falls hardest in Orange County on the 250,000 to 400,000 poor who have only Medi-Cal or no coverage at all. . . . Only about 7% of the county’s private doctors will accept Medi-Cal patients. Those without coverage must turn to charity clinics or UCI Medical Center. . . . “These aren’t just street people,” said health-care advocate Vicki Mayster. “A majority have homes, many are working, and many, many are children.”
