DEFENSE-LESS? Military contracts historically have pumped about $3 billion a year into Orange County. But with deep defense cuts likely, cities will have to find a way to turn swords into plowshares. . . . That in mind, Irvine Mayor Larry Agran is bringing together contractors, legislators and city officials from across the state to a Feb. 26 round table on diversifying local economies. The goal of the brainstorming: “To formulate a strategy to deal with the reality of lower military spending and to talk about worthwhile projects such as . . . fixing our transportation systems,” Agran said.
