Aileen Gallo, wife of winery co-owner Julio Gallo, was charged with misdemeanor vehicle manslaughter Friday stemming from a Jan. 2 accident. Gallo, 76, was driving a Lincoln Town Car that collided on California 52 with a Honda Civic driven by Sharon Kauk, 26, a San Jose special education teacher who was killed. “The evidence will show that the Gallo car left its lane of traffic, crossing over the double-yellow center line, and collided with an oncoming vehicle, fatally injuring the driver,” said Tom Farris, a Santa Clara County deputy district attorney. The charges filed against Gallo carry a maximum one-year jail term and $1,000 fine, Farris said. Gallo was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs and was not speeding when the accident occurred, Farris said.
