In other Orange Empire Conference baseball games:
Fullerton 17, Riverside 3--Fullerton scored six runs in the first inning and won easily at Riverside. Gary Mota went four-for-four and scored four runs, including his sixth home run of the season in the fourth inning. Jim Vlcek also hit a home run in the fourth, and went three-for-four with four RBI.
Steve Trachsel (4-1) pitched eight innings and struck out nine for the Hornets (11-3, 2-1).
Golden West 8, Cypress 6--Designated hitter Gary Christopherson hit a three-run home run in the top of the fifth to give visiting Golden West a 6-4 lead. Christopherson went three-for-five and drove in five runs and Gerad Cawhorn each had three hits for Golden West (11-2, 3-1).
Terry Tewell hit a three-run home run for Cypress (10-7, 0-3). Dave Turner (2-2) pitched 5 1/3 innings for Golden West, allowing five hits and four runs and Jerry Maldonado allowed two hits the rest of the way. Ken Tolbert (4-1) allowed seven runs in five innings and was charged with the loss.
