New Group to Fight Record Warning Labels: At its convention in Los Angeles, the National Assn. of Recording Merchandisers announced a new coalition of record industry associations to fight legislation requiring warnings on “offensive” recordings. The first priorities of the Coalition Against Lyrics Legislation are to lobby state legislatures considering labeling bills and to develop a standardized, voluntary warning label program. NARM General Counsel Charles Ruttenberg pledged “no compromise” on labeling legislation, which he termed unconstitutional.
