2-Career Singers Protest ‘Amateur’ Label

Professional singers in Opera Pacific’s production of “Turandot” take strong exception to being referred to as “amateurs” simply because we work two jobs (Patrick Mott’s article Feb. 23 in Orange County Life).
Everything about Opera Pacific’s operation and production strives for the highest professional standards. There is a long tradition of dual-career singers back to King David, singer and shepherd. Meistersinger Hans Sachs, shoemaker and also poet, inspired Wagner’s opera. The story that should have been written is that there are very talented people who devote time and efforts to the arts at a professional level despite the fact that they have other careers.
