An 81-year-old La Mesa man who had been missing for almost three weeks was found unharmed Wednesday night at Horton Plaza by a San Diego police officer.
Thomas Rice was reported missing March 2 after he left a La Mesa board-and-care facility in the 7100 block of Grable Street at 9 a.m. for a doctor’s appointment. La Mesa police said he was independent and had left the facility before, but never for several hours.
Police found Rice at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday. Rice told police he had been staying at the Pickwick Hotel on Broadway. San Diego police made arrangements to return Rice to the center. They said Rice, who is a diabetic, was in good condition.
