Beverly Hills Will Vote on City Council Position

The polls open at 7 a.m. today in Beverly Hills for a City Council election in which Trisha Roth, an anti-alcohol activist, is challenging incumbents Max Salter and Robert K. Tanenbaum.
During the campaign, Roth, a non-practicing pediatrician with little experience in city affairs, called for an accounting of the cost overruns in construction of the Beverly Hills Civic Center. Originally estimated to cost about $36 million, the Civic Center is now expected to cost more than $90 million.
The campaigns of Salter and Tanenbaum have focused on the incumbents’ efforts to secure extra financing for the city’s schools, which were hit by a teacher’s strike last year and may be facing budget cuts.
The polls close at 8 p.m.
