A new attorney was appointed today to help defend McMartin Pre-School defendant Ray Buckey, paving the way for jury selection to begin later today in Buckey’s second trial on eight molestation charges.
Attorney John Wagner was appointed by Superior Court Judge Stanley R. Weisberg to help Buckey’s original lawyer, Danny Davis, defend the former pre-school teacher, 31, who was aquitted three months ago of most of the charges against him.
Wagner was appointed because Davis’ recurring back problems will prevent him from attending the retrial on a full-time basis for at least the next several weeks.
Wagner represented Buckey’s sister, Peggy Ann Buckey, in her successful fight to regain her teaching credentials after she was cleared of all charges in the molestation case.
