FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Peter Blake sailed Steinlager 2 into port Monday, 34 minutes 30 seconds ahead of another New Zealand ketch, Fisher & Paykel, in the Whitbread Round the World Race.
Steinlager 2 has won all five legs of the fourth biennial event, which is touching an American port for the first time. Fisher & Paykel, skippered by Grant Dalton, has been the most competitive challenger and even held the lead several times on the fifth leg. But Steinlager 2 only increased her overall lead to 35 hours.
