BOMBAY, India — Fire broke out in Bombay’s biggest hotel and forced the evacuation of more than 1,000 guests from the high-rise and an adjoining hotel, but the blaze was put out today and there were no casualties, hotel officials said.
The blaze began late Thursday in the basement of the 36-story, five-star Oberoi Towers, which has 700 rooms.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, but one hotel staffer said it was probably due to a short circuit in the basement.
