PARIS — France, West Germany, Italy and the Netherlands have agreed to build a military helicopter together, the French Defense Ministry said today.
The ministry said in a statement that West German and French defense ministers agreed to the project during a two-day Franco-German summit which ended today.
It said the NH-90 transport helicopter will be built in cooperation with Italy and the Netherlands. German participation depends on approval from its parliament, the statement added.
France’s state-owned Aerospatiale and West Germany’s Messerschmitt have agreed to pool their helicopter operations to build the NH-90. Italy’s Agusta and the Dutch Fokker companies will be the other firms involved.
