Deukmejian Signs Airport Bill
Gov. George Deukmejian has signed into law a bill to temporarily exempt cities in Los Angeles County from another law aimed at ensuring orderly growth around the county’s 17 airports.
The county had been required to develop land-use plans by June 30, 1991, for land surrounding the airports. Until the plans were completed, cities were required to submit for review by the county any building permits for major building projects as far as two miles from airports.
The new law, by Sen. Robert G. Beverly (R-Manhattan Beach), gives the county an extra six months to complete the land-use plans. It also exempts cities from submitting their project building permits to the county.
