RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — Cal Poly Pomona won seven tiebreakers and moved to within one victory of its first national title with a 5-2 semifinal win over fourth-ranked Abilene Christian at the NCAA Division II Women’s Tennis Championships Monday.
In today’s final, the top-ranked Broncos (24-1) play UC Davis, which beat Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, 5-4.
“This is a group of athletes that play great as a team,” Bronco Coach Ann Lebedeff said. “They are very competitive.”
That competitive edge was apparent after All-American Onnaca Heron (21-7) lost to Abilene Christian’s Michelle King in the No. 1 singles, as Pomona won four of the next five matches.
