A woman bystander was killed during a confrontation between sheriff’s deputies and a gunman, who was wounded, at a South-Central Los Angeles liquor store, authorities said today.
Gianna Marie Blue, 30, was shot twice in the upper torso in the incident that broke out late Tuesday at E & W Liquor on South Central Avenue., said Deputy Roger Hom, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman.
The Los Angeles woman died at Martin Luther King Jr.-Drew Medical Center about 90 minutes after the shooting.
Martinez Benson, 25, of Los Angeles was shot and wounded after the gunman allegedly pulled his gun on the deputies and pointed it at them. He was reported in critical condition after surgery at the same hospital.
A statement issued by the Sheriff’s Department said it was not clear whether bullets fired by the deputies or the gunman killed the woman. An autopsy will be conducted to determine that.
