AT&T; to Cut Long-Distance Rates: American Telephone & Telegraph said it plans to lower prices about $160 million annually for interstate and international long-distance services, effective July 1. Under the cut, for example, prices for basic long-distance service would fall an average of 2.5% during the weekday evening calling period. The decrease, AT&T;’s 11th since 1984, would bring total reductions in long-distance prices to more than 42% since the 1984 breakup of the Bell System.
