Tim Manning of Trabuco Hills High School and Deanna Doolittle of Woodbridge were named the boy and girl athletes of the year Tuesday night at the spring meeting of the Orange County Athletic Directors’ Assn. in the Anaheim Stadium Club.
Manning led Trabuco Hills’ football team to consecutive Division VIII championships in 1988 and ’89 and set a county career record with 24 interceptions during his three years as a starting defensive back. He was the Mustangs’ quarterback last season.
Manning also was a starting guard on Trabuco Hills’ 1989 Division III state championship basketball team. He will attend the University of California in the fall.
Doolittle was the most valuable volleyball player in the Pacific Coast League for the past two seasons and was named to the all-Southern Section’s 5-A division team.
Doolittle also was an all-county soccer goalie as a senior and set a school record with 206 blocked shots during her two-year career. Doolittle will attend Loyola Marymount in the fall.
The athletes were selected by members of the media from a list of nominations from each league in the county. Each recipient will receive a $500 scholarship from the Coca-Cola Bottlers of Southern California.
