Yeas and Nays for Irvine Mayor Candidate Sally Anne Sheridan
- Share via
Negative stereotypes often enter our lives insidiously, and just such an intrusive stereotype entered the public’s view in the words of Sally Anne Sheridan, candidate for mayor for the city of Irvine.
In her April 17 statement to the press, she referred to herself as a “bed-pan carrier” in describing her nursing career. Registered nurses do not refer to our colleagues as “bedpan carriers.”
This is an extremely demeaning comment to make regarding one’s own profession, especially when Sheridan claimed to have a master’s degree in nursing, but later apologized for this false claim in another news account.
If she has such contempt for the nursing profession, why did she claim an advanced degree in this academic field of the science of nursing?
