Norwalk : Multifaceted Plan Aims to Reduce Auto Emissions

The Norwalk City Council has voted to spend $10,000 to initiate a multifaceted program to reduce auto emissions by cutting back the number of trips its 360 employees make to work.
The plan will be sent this week to the South Coast Air Quality Management District, which requires plans of employers that have more than 200 workers at one site.
Various facets of the program include a four-day work week for some employees, ride sharing, reserved parking for car-poolers, free bus service, schedules and maps, among other things.
The Air Quality District has 60 days to review the plan. If approved, the plan will then be implemented, city spokesman Kevin Yim said.
