A Placentia man on a Fourth of July outing with friends fell to his death Wednesday while preparing to dive into a popular swimming hole in Pennsylvania, police said Thursday.
Pennsylvania state police said Daniel Hatcher Hough, 44, died of head injuries suffered in the accident, which occurred about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday near Davidson Township in Sullivan County.
Police said Hough was preparing to dive from the top of Sullivan Falls, 45 feet above a small creek, when he lost his footing and landed on the rocks at the base of the falls. Friends of Hough tried to revive him but failed, police said. They said he apparently was in the area for a family reunion.
Attempts to locate family members were unsuccessful.
Davidson Township is in the northeast corner of Pennsylvania, about 40 miles west of Scranton.
