Valley Rangers Earn Berth in World Series

The Valley Rangers have qualified for the National Baseball Congress World Series after battling through the losers’ bracket of the state tournament, which ended Wednesday in Santa Maria.
The Rangers (17-5) opened and closed the tournament with losses to champion Santa Maria, but won four consecutive games in between to finish second.
The World Series, one of the top amateur baseball competitions in the country, will run from Aug. 3 through Aug. 20 in Wichita, Kan., at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
