Too Good Scratched From Meadowlands Pace After Surgery

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — New Jersey Classic winner Too Good underwent emergency surgery for a scrotal hernia Thursday and had to be scratched from tonight’s $1.5-million Meadowlands Pace.
Too Good was taken to the Mid-Atlantic Equine Clinic in Hunterdon County where veterinarians had to remove one of his testicles, owner Ron Knigge said.
“The horse is stable,” Constance Knigge said in a telephone interview from her Roseland, N.J., home. “He will be fine. It does not affect his career. He will be back. I don’t know when..”
The scratch in the $1,153,500 race opened a position for Kiev Hanover to come off the also eligible list and run in tonight’s race for 3-year-olds. The colt will break from the No. 9 post position that had been drawn by Too Good, and he was made a 20-1 long shot.
With the scratch, track odds makers adjusted the pre-race odds and made Beach Towel an even more lukewarm favorite, raising his odds from 9-5 to 2-1.
Apaches Fame remained the second choice, going from 7-2 to 3-1 while Jake and Elwood dropped from 4-1 to 7-2.
