Ceradyne Posts $198,000 Profit for 2nd Quarter

Ceradyne Inc., the Costa Mesa-based manufacturer of industrial ceramics, posted net income of $198,000 for the 1990 second quarter, contrasted with a loss of $1.4 million for the quarter in 1989. Sales increased 7%, to $6.1 million from $5.7 million.
For the first half, the company reported a net profit of $264,000, contrasted with a net loss of $2.3 million for the first six months of 1989. Sales were up 3%, to $12.1 million from $11.7 million.
The company said its recovery plan emphasizing cost reductions and operating controls was primarily responsible for the favorable results.
