Romania’s former secret police chief testified in Bucharest that Nicu Ceausescu, accused of ordering the massacre of 89 civilians during the revolution that toppled his father, often opposed his parents’ policies. Gen. Col. Iulian Vlad, who headed deposed dictator Nicolae Ceausescu’s Securitate secret police, testified that there were “several occasions” during which the younger Ceausescu was the only member of the state leadership to openly oppose his parents’ policies.
