The architect of US Sprint’s successful bid for part of a $25-billion federal contract has resigned.
Sprint confirmed Thursday the resignation of David C. Gergacz, chief operating officer of its government network systems division, but provided no other details. Gergacz, 41, could not be reached for comment.
He is the third key executive to leave Sprint this month.
Clifford R. Hall, who was credited with solving serious billing problems at Sprint, resigned two weeks ago. Jerry W. Cosley, vice president-communications at Sprint and United Telecommunications Inc., also announced his resignation. United Telecom is Sprint’s majority owner.
Last week, Sprint reported a $42-million net operating loss in the second quarter. But Sprint spokesman Syd Courson said Gergacz’s resignation was unrelated to the earnings problems.
“Basically, he just resigned to look for other opportunities,” Courson said.
Gary Forsee, 40, has been appointed Gergacz’s successor, Courson said. Forsee joined Sprint in December from American Telephone & Telegraph Co., where he was responsible for AT&T;’s part of the $25-billion FTS 2000 contract to upgrade the federal government’s phone system.
