NATION IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Barry Guard Denies Seeing Cocaine Used

A third police officer assigned to guard Washington Mayor Marion Barry testified he did not see the mayor use cocaine during a 1988 trip to the Virgin Islands that witnesses characterized as a four-day party of cocaine and sex. Also, defense attorney R. Kenneth Mundy said he may put key prosecution witness Charles Lewis back on the stand to question him about ties to a “very notorious drug dealer.” Officer Ulysses Walltower’s testimony about the Virgin Islands trip was in sharp contrast to that described by Lewis, a former city worker and convicted drug dealer who said he, Barry and a number of women shared 24 bags of crack.
