WORLD IN BRIEF : PERU : Maoist Rebels Kill Executive, Educator

Suspected guerrillas of the left-wing Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path) killed a Peruvian businessman and a university official in separate attacks, police said. Antonio Rosales Durand, a 65-year-old executive, and two of his bodyguards were shot to death on a Lima street on their way to a rubber factory after their two-car caravan was forced to stop by a tanker truck the rebels placed across the road, police said. In the Andean city of Ayacucho, the spiritual center of the Maoist Shining Path movement, the legal adviser to the University of San Cristobal de Huamanga, Hernando Colonia Arteaga, 35, was shot to death by assailants who forced their way into his home.
