Report Says Productivity Up: The productivity of American workers rose between April and June after dropping steadily for the past 1 1/2 years, the Labor Department said, but analysts said it was mainly because fewer people had jobs. Productivity in non-farm businesses rose at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.6% in the second quarter. The department also sharply scaled back its estimates of 1989 hourly output per worker to show the first annual decline since the 1981-82 recession. Productivity in 1989 fell 0.3% instead of the 0.9% gain first estimated.
