Douglas to Launch Satellite: McDonnell Douglas Space Systems Co. said it plans to launch a second satellite for British Satellite Broadcasting Ltd. on Aug. 15 at 3:48 p.m. from Cape Canaveral, Fla.
The satellite, designed and built by Hughes Aircraft Co., will join another satellite 20,173 miles above Earth to provide the United Kingdom with more than twice its present television broadcast capability.
The satellite will be carried aboard a Delta II rocket and will be the fifth commercial satellite to be launched by McDonnell Douglas. The company has contracts to launch seven more commercial satellites.
