Scotto Sentenced, Released: The son of a reputedly high-ranking member of a New York crime family was sentenced to 16 months in jail for his role in extorting money from Hollywood nightclub owners and other small businessmen. John Scotto, 28, who had been in custody since February, was sentenced by a Superior Court judge, then immediately released on credit for time previously served. Scotto had faced a maximum sentence of four years. He is the son of Anthony Scotto, who New York authorities have described as a top lieutenant in the Gambino crime family.
