Memorial Service for Crash Victims

RAMSTEIN, West Germany — U.S. and West German officials Friday attended a memorial service for 13 American servicemen who died when a military plane helping transport supplies to the Persian Gulf crashed.
The C-5A Galaxy plunged into woods Wednesday and burst into flames shortly after takeoff from the U.S. base at Ramstein. Officials said Friday the cause of the crash has not been established and that the investigation is continuing.
Gen. Richard T. Swops of the U.S. military community of Kaiserslautern gathered with other military personnel and local West German politicians Friday at the Ramstein airport for a memorial service.
The aircraft was attached to the 60th Military Aircraft Wing, Travis AFB, Calif., but the flight crew was from a reserve unit, the 433d Military Airlift Wing, at Kelly AFB, San Antonio.
